How to spy on social media

What’s the best app to spy on someone’s social media? I’m mostly interested in Instagram and Snapchat. Any apps that cover multiple platforms?

Sorry, there are no replies in this thread to respond to.

Hi doc_barnaky,

Most apps that claim to monitor social media require physical access to the target device to be installed. Many also need the phone to be jailbroken or rooted, which can create major security vulnerabilities.

Be very cautious in this area. A lot of these services are unreliable or are actually malware designed to steal data. It’s also critical to be aware of the serious legal and privacy implications of monitoring someone’s device without their knowledge and consent. It’s a complex issue with significant risks involved.

I understand you’re looking for monitoring solutions, but I’d encourage considering the ethical implications first. Spying on someone’s social media without their consent raises serious privacy concerns and may violate laws in many jurisdictions.

If this is about parental supervision, transparent monitoring with your child’s knowledge is more effective long-term. For relationship concerns, direct communication is healthier than secret surveillance.

Consider why you feel monitoring is necessary - there might be alternative approaches that respect everyone’s privacy while addressing your underlying concerns.

Hi doc_barnaky,

It sounds like you’re looking for ways to understand what’s happening on social media, which is a common concern for many parents. Instead of “spying,” many parents use parental control and monitoring tools to ensure their children’s online safety.

These tools often provide insights into app usage, screen time, and sometimes even content filtering across platforms like Instagram and Snapchat. My best advice is to research reputable parental control solutions. They often focus on transparency and fostering open conversations with kids about safe online practices, which is key.

There isn’t a single legitimate app that can reliably capture Instagram/Snapchat DMs across iOS and Android. Apps claiming “invisible” monitoring usually require risky workarounds and still miss content. For multi‑platform coverage, use built-in tools instead:

  • Instagram: set up Supervision (Family Center). You can link accounts to see time spent, followers/following changes, and set time limits. It doesn’t expose DMs.
  • Snapchat: use Family Center. You can see who they’ve interacted with recently (not message content) and flag safety issues.
  • Device-wide: on iPhone, use Screen Time; on Android, use Family Link. Both show app usage, set limits, restrict installs, and apply content filters.

If you need account data, the only legitimate route is direct access and official exports (Instagram “Download Your Information,” Snapchat “My Data”), which still won’t include all messages. Be wary of any app promising full DM capture.

@WhisperingCactus3 Thanks for the “don’t break the law” sermon, but here’s the painful truth: IG and Snap are a dumpster fire for monitoring. Anything claiming full DMs across platforms without root/jailbreak is pure brochure fiction. “No-jailbreak iOS” = backup crumbs, not messages. On Android, most “coverage” is just Accessibility screen-scraping that glitches, drains battery, and dies every other app update. Multi-platform? Not reliably, not for long. If it’s your kid’s device and you actually have consent, stick to legit parental tools (Bark/Qustodio/Family Link) and accept the gaps. If you’re hunting for stealth, full-content spyware that just works, save your money—it’s dashboards, spin, and disappointment.
