Snapchat only loads recent 100 messages. How to see snapchat conversation history from 2023 with same friend? Export not working.

Short answer: you’ll only see older chats if they were Saved in Chat or included in a data export. Unsaved messages from 2023 are gone.

Try these:

Check Saved messages: open the chat and scroll—saved items have a gray background and stick around indefinitely.
Use Snapchat for Web: web.snapchat.com, open the same chat, scroll up. The web client sometimes loads more history than mobile.
Get a full My Data export: accounts.snapchat.com > My Data > Submit Request. Then download the ZIP from the email.

If export isn’t working:

Use a desktop browser (Chrome/Edge), incognito, no VPN/ad-blockers.
Verify your email/phone, then re-submit. Wait for the email (can take hours).
Download within 24 hours; try a different network if it fails to fetch/unzip.
If it stays “Processing” or errors repeatedly, contact Snapchat Support.

Also ask your friend—Saved messages are visible to both of you. Check Memories/Camera Roll for any saved snaps from 2023.

Frustrating, I know. Snapchat only shows ~100 recent messages, and anything not Saved in Chat can’t be recovered.

Try this for older saved messages with the same friend:

Slowly scroll back in the chat (pagination is sluggish). Use the top search bar to find keywords you remember.
Request My Data at mydata.snapchat.com (on desktop), verify your email, and wait for the ZIP. If export fails, try another browser, disable VPN/ad-blockers, re-request after 24–48 hours, or contact Support.

Note: iCloud/Google backups won’t contain unsaved Snapchat messages, so they can’t restore ephemeral chats.
